DESSO® wins Mixology North Environmental and Social Impact award

09 December 2010

Desso's commitment to Cradle to Cradle® manufacturing has been recognised at this year's Mixology North as the manufacturer won the prestigious Environmental & Social Impact award.

The awards, hosted by Mix Interiors, focus on the office interiors market judged by an independent panel of leading architects, specifiers and consultants. The Mixology North Winter Ball awards ceremony took place on 25th November 2010 at the Palace Hotel, Manchester.

This accolade comes at the end of an impressive year of innovation for Desso, having launched its first Cradle to Cradle® certified carpet backing, EcoBase®, achieving Silver Certification for an entire carpet tile product. As well as establishing a fully certified Take Back™ programme, DESSO has also developed Refinity®, an innovative separation technique enabling the yarn and other fibres to be separated from the backing ensuring that the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy of continual reuse can take place.

Desso has set itself the challenge to become 100% Cradle to Cradle® by 2020 and is currently right on track to meet this objective with 75% of carpet tile products already certified. Desso's Cradle to Cradle® implementation programme is highly ambitious and thanks to immense commitment from the entire company over the past two years Cradle to Cradle® awareness is growing and results are increasingly visible.

At the heart of Desso's commitment to environmental responsibility is its partnership with the EPEA (Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency), launched by German chemist Professor Dr Michael Braungart whose groundbreaking and challenging Cradle to Cradle® concept aims at the creation of products which can eventually be recycled in their entirety to provide the raw materials for new goods.
