On November 12, Desso was highly commended by a judging panel of experts for the UK-based Green Business Awards (Waste and resources category, supported by WRAP) introduced by ENDS (Environmental Data Services), a specialist information service for environment professionals.
The judges said that Desso was highly commended for "redesigning its carpet tile business using 'Cradle to Cradle®' thinking." The judges went on to say, "This inspired the company to develop a take-back scheme, retrieving old carpet tiles from its customers for recycling. Yarn from the tiles can be used to make new carpet, while the bitumen backing is used to resurface roads."
This category was one of the most competitive with six strong entries from Desso, PepsiCo, Dixons Retail, TJ International, Scott Group and EnvironCom (winner).
"We are delighted to receive this commendation, recognising our efforts in driving towards the circular economy and building a strong, profitable and sustainable business model based on Cradle to Cradle® innovation,"
Alexander Collot d'Escury, CEO of Desso
