Design competition for new carpet Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam

01 August 2014 - The world famous Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam organises in cooperation with Desso an exciting design competition. Designers from anywhere in the world are invited to make a unique new carpet which will be the eye-catcher of the central hall of the museum each Friday Night. The museum contains the largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the world and attracts more than 1,5 million visitors each year.

A professional jury will judge all entries. The top-5 entries will receive personal feedback on their design by Axel Rüger (Director Van Gogh Museum), Bas Koster (designer and visual artist), Thomas Widdershoven (Creative Director Design Academy Eindhoven), Léon Stolk (Creative Director Bourne Design) and Roland Jonkhoff (Managing Director Desso). 

The unveiling of the new carpet will take place on Friday night 6 February 2015

Friday Night at the Van Gogh Museum

Each Friday Night the Van Gogh Museum is open until 10pm. Presenting every first Friday of the month a Grand Event and the other Friday Nights special activities like a DJ, VJ, cocktail bar and free guided tours. On these evenings rising stars from the world of pop music, theatre and dance, films and fashion show how Vincent van Gogh is a source of inspiration for them.

To join a Friday Night, you only  need a ticket to the Van Gogh Museum. For fast access, order your ticket online. You don't need to print your e-ticket, just show it on your smartphone (iOS or Android) at the museum entrance.
