Partnership

As a major company with a worldwide presence, BNP Paribas understands that its activities and our working processes have direct consequences on:

• The social sphere,
• The environment,
• and most of all the economy.

The specifics
BNP Paribas has created a committee whose role is to identify the risks and opportunities associated with climate change: the Climate Change Steering Committee. It also aims to support the transition to a low carbon economy Recognition by SRI rating agencies.

BNP Paribas is included in all the main sustainability indices: DJSI World, DJSI Stoxx, ASPI Eurozone, FTSE 4Good Global 100, FTSE 4Good Europe 50, and Ethibel. It is one of only a handful of banks worldwide to feature in all these indices.

Embedding sustainable development in BNP Paribas corporate culture; The success of a company's commitment to sustainable development depends first and foremost on the men and women who make up the company taking ownership of the process. That's why BNP Paribas invests in raising awareness, and in listening to and supporting its employees on a daily basis. BNP Paribas also supports its employees' own social initiatives. Amid the crisis that has struck the financial services industry, BNP Paribas stands out as one of the most robust and profitable banking groups. This is in no small part a result of the personal commitment of each employee, day after day, in the service of the Group's goals.

In 2010, the Group's buyers received training in responsible purchasing. Their objective is to integrate social and environmental criteria into tenders and to analyze the social responsibility of their suppliers.

For Desso corporate responsibility is high on the agenda as well. Early 2008 Desso made a natural decision to take an alternative route and go a step beyond mere sustainability in our design and production. Desso has set itself the target to be a fully Cradle to Cradle® (C2C) company in all its business units by 2020. Quite simply, it's about 'doing the right things right'. We want to avoid creating an efficient pursuit of the wrong goals, and
make a fundamental shift towards a new design objective. By doing that we can ensure that our products are made from pure materials that are safe for human use and can be biologically or technically recycled at the end of their useful life. We call this eco-effectiveness.

Today Desso's Business Carpet division is well ahead of planning. With the launch of DESSO EcoBase® we have achieved Cradle to Cradle® Silver Certification for our
carpet tiles. Desso is proud to be the only carpet tile manufacturer in the world to have achieved Cradle to Cradle® Silver Certification for an entire carpet.
